Tohono O'odham

The Tohono O'odham Nation is a federally-recognized tribe that includes close to 28,000 members occupying tribal lands in southwestern Arizona. From ancient time, the origins of these people have been linked to their homeland in the Sonoran Desert. Becoming master desert dwellers, the people of the Nation built intricate systems of canals for farming, perfected stone and pottery arts, and left behind symbolic ceremonial traditions.

As a school we want to share this important heritage with the next generation. We believe our students should take pride in the legacy of their ancestors and so we strive to incorporate the rich heritage of Tohono O’odham into the curriculum at Indian Oasis.
